Foundations are a key player in the realm of funding for social initiatives. Even so, with the emergence of new insights and approaches, these entities are increasingly mindful of how to integrate and maximise social impact within their operations. While foundations are most widely known for grant-making, they also have at their disposal an increasing spectrum of complementary tools, namely in the field of Social Impact Investing.
The meaning of this approach and its relevance to foundations can, however, get lost in the midst of confusing terminology – Mission-Related-Investments, Program-Related-Investments, Total Impact Approach… What are the possible ways of integrating Social Impact Investing into a foundation’s work? How is this approach a viable complement to traditional grant-making? What lessons can be learned from success stories and interesting case examples of foundations doing Social Impact Investing? What are some regulatory hurdles that have to be kept in mind?
For the first 2017 session of its EU Webinar Series, EVPA will be looking at these questions. With the aid of experts and practitioners, this session will shed some clarity on the various Social Impact Investing tools available to foundations. It will also delve deeper into what are most widely known as Mission-Related Investments, i.e. investments of a foundation’s endowment that are aligned with its statuary purpose.
EVPA’s webinar on “Foundations & Social Impact Investing” will take place on the 22nd of March 2017 (14:30 - 16:00 CET).
