EVPA members SI² Fund and Shærpa have joined forces and completed the initial closing of its SI² fund, with committed capital of over €15 million. The additional funds enable SI² Fund to broaden its portfolio and to strengthen its management capacity.

SI² Fund welcomes Pieter Oostlander, founder of Shærpa and EVPA’s current Chairman, who will be the fund manager together with Fried Roggen (i-propeller). Follow-on fund raising rounds are planned later in the year to further increase the fund size to above €20 million.

SI² Fund does active direct investment in social enterprises that generate a significant positive societal impact and fair financial return.  The fund is supported by private investors and foundations from Belgium and the Netherlands with Piet Colruyt as cornerstone investor.

SI² Fund was created in 2012 and focuses on solving societal challenges in the area of poverty, demography, community, ethical goods and services, health and well-being, employability, and environment. The fund invests amounts between €250k and €1,500k in early-stage and growth-stage equity of investment-ready social enterprises.

SI² Fund has so far invested in four social enterprises: FitClass (exercise and health centers based in schools), Boobs-‘n-Burps (community and one-stop-shop dedicated to the promotion of breastfeeding), Cirkle (home delivery of bio baskets with reverse logistic and charities collection services), and Spacehive (civic crowdfunding platform in the UK).
