SME Instrument – EIC Accelerator Pilot


Phase 1: Feasibility study

Programme: Horizon 2020

Deadline: 5 September 2019

Objectives: To help the SME get a grip on the R&D, technical feasibility and commercial potential of a ground-breaking, innovative idea and develop it into a credible business plan. Activities can include, for example, risk assessment, market research, user involvement, analysis of regulatory constraints or standards regimes, intellectual property management, partner search, or feasibility assessment

Eligible Applicants:

  • For-profit SMEs (young companies and start-ups from any sector)
  • Established in an EU Member State or a Horizon 2020 associated country
  • After 5 June 2019: only individual for-profit SMEs

Budget: A lump sum of €50,000

Duration of the project: around 6 months

Phase 2: From concept to market

Programme: Horizon 2020

Deadline: Multiple cut-offs: 5 June 2019; 9 October 2019; 8 January 2020; 18 March 2020; 19 May 2020; 7 October 2020

Objectives: To develop the SMEs business concept further into a market-ready product, service or process aligned with the company’s growth strategy. Activities could, for example, include product/service development, trials, prototyping, validation, demonstration and testing in real-world conditions, and market replication.

Eligible Applicants:

  • For-profit SMEs (young companies and start-ups from any sector)
  • Established in an EU Member State or a Horizon 2020 associated country
  • After 5 June 2019: only individual for-profit SMEs

Budget: Grant-only funding (funding rate 70%) of between €0.5 million and €2.5 million

Duration of the project: normally 12 to 24 months to complete, but could be longer in exceptional and well-justified cases
