About MCE Social Capital

MCE Social Capital is a nonprofit impact investing firm that was founded in 2005 in San Francisco. They use a pioneering loan guarantee model to mobilize capital in order to generate economic opportunity for women and rural families living in poverty throughout the developing world.

Leveraging the excellent credit of high net worth individuals and foundations (the Guarantors), MCE borrows capital from U.S. and European financial institutions and accredited investors, and then strategically deploys this capital to two types of organizations:

Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) that help people living in rural areas gain access to credit, savings accounts, insurance, healthcare and health education, business education, and technical assistance.

Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) in the agriculture value chain, water & sanitation, and renewable energy sectors, to create reliable jobs in rural economies, raise smallholder farmers’ income, and address basic needs in underserved areas

MCE Social Capital have both investors involved who earn a return and philanthropists who gift MCE money, so they work on both ends of the venture philanthropy spectrum.
