Providing affordable & accessible energy to rural populations in Devergy

At the end of 2015, OPES Impact Fund joined a group of distinguished emerging market clean technology and social impact investors in supporting the growth of Devergy, a social energy services company that provides low income, rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa with access to modern and affordable electricity.

The company builds, operates, and maintains solar PV micro grids that allow customers to access modern electricity and household appliances on a pay-as-you-go basis.

OPES Impact Fund’s investment of $100,000, together with equity investments from the Acumen Fund, HERi Africa, and Persistent Energy Capital, will help Devergy expand its management team and grow commercial operations throughout Western Tanzania. The company will be opening a Series B investment round in 2016.
