Hugo is co-founder and Director of Associação Fazer Avançar, an NGO that educates, trains and mobilises youth to be agents of social change. He is also co-founder of SPEAK and is currently building this social tech start-up that connects migrants, refugees and locals through a language and culture exchange programme and events - helping them to feel integrated into the city that they have moved to. It breaks barriers, promotes multilingualism and equality, and democratises language learning.

He is a mentor at IES Social Business School and tech 4 social change start-ups. He is also a Global Shaper at the World Economic Forum, was recognised by INSEAD as one of top three young social entrepreneurs with most potential in Portugal and by UNAOC as one of top 20 in the Euro-Med region.

He took his MSc in Computer Science Engineering at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he was also Assistant Professor. He was awarded scholarships in research and lecturing. Prior to SPEAK, Hugo worked as a software engineer and online operations specialist at OutSystems, and as an online community specialist and product manager at Google, where he received a golden award in recognition of his efficiency and productivity.
